Union Minister and West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar has raised alarm over the recent violence in Murshidabad, writing to Governor CV Ananda Bose to seek urgent intervention amid reports of targeted attacks on Hindus.
Majumdar, who visited Malda to meet families displaced by the violence, described their plight as “horrifying and heartbreaking.” In a post on his official X handle, he wrote, “Today, I reached Malda and met several displaced, persecuted, and terrified Hindu families who were forced to flee Murshidabad due to barbaric persecution by fundamentalist miscreants. The safety and dignity of these vulnerable Hindu citizens must be protected at all costs. This is not just a law and order issue; it is a humanitarian crisis.”
The violence erupted following protests against the Waqf Amendment Act, leading to the deaths of three people, injuries to several others, and extensive property damage. Majumdar criticised the state administration, calling for the long-term deployment of Central forces, including the CRPF, to restore peace and stability.
Speaking to ANI, he said, “The situation is very tense. I urge the Chief Minister to request the Centre for CRPF deployment. The Central force should remain until normalcy is restored. Our demand is simple—peace and protection for all.”
The BJP has accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of enabling the unrest, specifically targeting TMC MP Bapi Halder for alleged incitement. Majumdar condemned Halder’s remarks and questioned the police’s inaction against him.
As the political temperature rises in the wake of the Murshidabad violence, calls for accountability and protection of minority communities continue to intensify.
